Sexton worked well behind his jab from the first bell to the finish of the fight, using it to hurt Erdos as well as to open him up for more vicious attacks. It seemed inevitable that Sexton would get the stoppage victory and could have got it in the 2nd when he landed a crips sharp uppercut which hurt Erdos but he somehow held on to see out the round.

The finish eventually came in the 4th round when the ref stepping in and Erdos’ corner throwing in the towel simultaneously after Erdos turned his back on Sexton who’d just landed with a thudding left hook. Sexton wanted to make a statement and he did. He stopped Erdos in the 4th when the durable Hungarian lasted 5 rounds against Chisora and took Cornish the full 12. Sexton will no doubt be looking at the British title scene now and hoping to be put into a position to fight for the vacant belt if/when Anthony Joshua vacates.

The undercard was an exciting affair with both Alan Ratibb and Ryan Frost getting wins in their first professional outings. Both impressed and both came through some trouble with Frost proving his heart coming back from a flash knockdown in the 1st to win comfortably on points and Ratibb dealing with a nasty cut over the eye from a clash of heads.

There were point victories for Billy “Boy” Bird and Zaiphan Morris. Both looked like they were going to win with a stoppage but their opponents managed to hold on to hear the Refs scorecard.

The performance of the night came from John Hurn who blew his opponent out of there in the first round. Hurn will no doubt be looking to try and set up a showdown with Ben Hall for the Southern Area title in the future.

The shock of the night came when Prince Patel drew with Juan Hinostroza. Patel did not look impressive at all and I believe he was lucky to be given the draw in the end. It took some old school pro tricks to save Patel, who spat out his gum shield twice and bundled Hinostroza to the floor on one occasion when he looked certain to be going down for the count. To put the performance into perspective, Hinostroza took Charlie Edwards the distance before he lost on points. Both Patel and Edwards fought Hinostroza in their 4th fight. Patel will need to rethink his fighting style as none of his punches carried any weight and he was bullied by the smaller Hinostroza. Patel also found himself being booed by the crowd who didn’t appreciate his sneaky tactics when spitting out his gum shield. Luckily for Patel he’s got a chance to put things right almost immediately as he’s back out on the 2nd April in Harrow.
