This weekend we have the first mega-fight of 2016 with the IBF Super-Bantamweight champion Carl Frampton taking on the WBA Super-Bantamweight champion Scott Quigg. Both meet each other after what could be considered Frampton’s worst performance of his career and Quigg’s best. How much you read into that is up to you. Was it just a bad day in the office for Frampton? Was Quigg lucky to catch Martinez with that peach of an uppercut? In the end only time will tell.
No amount of going into form or level of their opponents will split these two. You’re either Team Frampton or Team Quigg. So depending on what team you’re in will decide what bet you put on, but my “tip” for the main event of the weekend is for the winner to win by a split decision. You’ll get better odds on Quigg (22/1) than Frampton (10/1), but go with your gut – both are good odds.
The 2nd fight I will be looking at is Leo Santa Cruz vs Kiko Martinez. Santa Cruz one of 4 strong champions at Featherweight and is taking on Martinez, who since his loss to Quigg has had a run of 3 wins, but not against anyone of any note. I’m going to back Santa Cruz to win with a stoppage in the middle rounds (rounds 4-6 @ 11/4)
The last fight I’m going to be putting in my treble is Terence Crawford vs Henry Lundy. Lundy hasn’t done anything to deserve to be in the ring against Crawford; in his last 3 fights he’s lost twice. I’m going to go with Crawford to win by K.O (4/9)
So my two risky trebles are:
Frampton to win via split decision @ 10/1
Santa Cruz to win Rounds 4-6 @ 11/4
Terence Crawford by KO/TKO/DQ @ 4/9
A £2 bet with SkyBet will bring returns of £119.17 @ 58.58/1
Quigg to win via split decision @ 22/1
Santa Cruz to win Rounds 4-6 @ 11/4
Terence Crawford by KO/TKO/DQ @ 4/9
A £2 bet with SkyBet will bring returns of £249.17 @ 123.58/1
My two reasonable trebles are:
Frampton to win @ 8/13
Santa Cruz to win Rounds 4-6 @ 11/4
Terence Crawford by KO/TKO/DQ @ 4/9
A £5 bet with SkyBet will bring returns of £43.75 @ 7.75/1
Quigg to win @ 5/4
Santa Cruz to win Rounds 4-6 @ 11/4
Terence Crawford by KO/TKO/DQ @ 4/9
A £5 bet with SkyBet will bring returns of £60.94 @ 11.19/1
