Barrow Light Heavyweight Liam Conroy challenges for the British Challenge title on February 20th at Preston’s Guild Hall.

The 23 year old shipyard worker got back to winning ways last September, outpointing the tough Elvis Dube over four rounds in a fight which saw Conroy break his hand.The Johnney Roye trained Barrow native will now look to kick on to titles starting with his tilt at the British Challenge Light Heavyweight title on February 20th at Preston’s Guild Hall.

Conroy spoke excitedly ahead of his first title fight as a professional,

“I’m really excited ahead of my title fight. I did my first 6 rounder quite early in my career and this will be fight number 13. I think its been a long time coming in stepping up in rounds and I am looking forward to the challenge. Winning this title would be massive for me and make me really proud after the couple of setbacks I’ve had so far. It will mean a lot to me to be able to call myself a champion”.

If Liam is successful on February 20th it will launch him directly into the British title picture at Light Heavyweight. With rumours circulating that current champion Bob Ajisafe could vacate the title in the early months of this year, a window of opportunity could arise for Conroy. The Cumbrian man who works from 7am to 4pm and studies as well, is still finding the right amount of hours to spend in the MGM Manchester gym under coach Johnney Roye.

“I have quite a busy routine; I basically start work around 7am in the morning, finish at 4 and set off to the gym in Preston at around 4.30pm. Other days I might not be going to Preston as I have night school or something which lasts till 8 o’clock so I will do some training at the DW gym in Barrow. I won’t be back then until about 9.30pm during the week. I don’t spend much time in my house or with my girlfriend. It’s hard work constantly being busy but it’s what I need to do to prepare myself for the tough fights ahead”.

An opportunity for a British title fight could lie in wait for Conroy if he is victorious at Preston’s Guild Hall in February. This will make for an intriguing contest as there will be a lot on the line come fight night. Liam is a true trade fighter, a grafter that will be looking to push on to bigger and better things in his career. His support create an electric atmosphere when Liam fights and will be sure to be louder than ever in what will be the Barrow mans biggest fight to date.

Liam Conroy headlines a card that features former IBF Super Featherweight champion Malcolm Klassen, Michael Ramabeletsa and Lyndon Newman who are also in title action. Kofi Yates has his first professional contest down at Lightweight. Former British Light Heavyweight title challenger Matty Clarkson returns alongside undefeated Leigh Welterweight Ashley Peyton.
